My Child is a Covenant Child
Children are less than 50% of our population, but they are 100% of our future.
Although they can’t vote or advocate for themselves, children—all over the country—have taken action to improve themselves, their homes, and their communities. They, like their parents, sisters, brothers, cousins, neighbors want to grow up in healthy clean communities with plenty of safe places for recreation; they want to go to schools with computer equipment that helps them learn better and understand the world more; they want to live in nurturing neighborhoods where they feel safe on their way to school; and they too want to eat well and grow to be healthy and strong. Kids want many of the positive things that adults want. The quest to create loving and prosperous communities also defines The Covenant with Black America. And it’s what ties The Covenant to this My Child is a Covenant Child story-telling initiative. The Covenant wants you to tell us about kids who’re taking action to make our world better. We’d like to hear how your children are helping to improve the communities where they live and go to school. What are they doing to improve themselves? What are they doing to foster better relationships with their peers? And please, tell us what books you recommend to your children that help build their self-esteem. What are some “wise sayings” that you want to share with The Covenant members?
This initiative is in partnership with The Jamestown Project, which recently released the children’s companion to The Covenant with Black America entitled, I Dream For You a World: A Covenant for Our Children by Charisse Carney-Nunes. The book, which may be purchased online or at a bookstore near you, gives parents and teachers dozens of ideas of Covenant-inspired activities for children. |
